Aged 30 years in whisky refill casks and 10 years in Oloroso sherry butts. With Deanston's ability to show the whisky-drinking world what younger and older Scotch whiskies should taste like, it just reveals clearly how well they are doing their craft ever since officially becoming a distillery in the 1960s. The Deanston 40 Year Old Single Malt Scotch is expected to portray what is single malt if it is created by Deanston. But the truth is, it has proven to be so much more than that. It's a fine old dram that is perfectly balanced, complex, full-flavored, mellow, and sophisticated.

Deanston 40 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky Tasting Notes

Nose: In its perfect natural color, the 40-year-old Deanston Single Malt Scotch Whisky greets you with delightful aromas of honey, sweet, malt, vanilla fudge, dried fruit like sultanas and apricots, and baking spices.

Palate: It has a sherry-filled mouth-watering goodness that'll also pleasure you with flavors of orange peel, baked apples, cinnamon, rich oak, burnt sugar, and honey cake.

Finish: This lovely and authentic single malt will leave your palate with a distinctive fruity finale.

Distillery Information

Located just outside the town of Doune in Perthshire, the Deanston Distillery is located on the banks of the River Teith. Originally a cotton mill, it was converted to a distillery in the 1960s and like many others prospered in the whisky boom of the 1970s when it was purchased by Invergordon Distillers. The 'Great whisky lake' of the 1980s saw many distilleries mothballed as supply exceeded demand, this included Deanston which closed in 1982. In early 1990 the distillery was purchased by Burn Stewart Distillers, with the intention of primarily utilizing its produce into blends such as the 'Scottish Leader' (not seen in Australia). Today, somewhere in the region of 15% of whisky produced at Deanston is destined to be bottled as stand alone single malt.
