It had previously been a family firm, based in the Maconnais region and producing a wide range of wines from Burgundy appellations. Mommessin's main claim to fame was its purchase of the Clos de Tart Grand Cru in Morey-Saint-Denis in 1932, a property that the Mommessin family retained and owned until 2017 when it was sold to the billionaire François Pinault. Today, Mommessin makes wines from around the south and east of France.
