It was founded in 1995 by Colin Glaetzer, and is now run by his son Ben, and best known for its red wines based largely on Shiraz, which display ripe, supple fruit, soft tannins, and a combination of ageability and approachability. The range of wines is headed by Amon-Ra, Glaetzer's flagship Shiraz. Renowned US wine critic Robert Parker gave the 2003 vintage a score of 96-100, which helped establish it as one of the most sought-after and expensive Australian wines. The Anaperenna wine (formerly labeled Goldolphin), a Shiraz – Cabernet blend, is made in the same way as Amon-Ra in small open-topped fermenters, aged for 16 months in new (predominantly French) oak 300-litre hogsheads and is then bottled without filtration.
