By the 1970s the Domaine’s reputation had grown further still thanks to Bernard Moreau, who was in charge at the time and after whom the Domaine was subsequently named. Bernard’s sons, Alex and Benoit, arrived at the estate in 1998 and have since been taking the quality levels to even greater heights. They are now recognised as one of the main reference points for Chassagne-Montrachet. The Moreau brothers farm the estate, which spans 14ha of vines in Chassagne, without herbicides or pesticides and only use organic fertilizer when needed. Harvesting tends towards the earlier side, preferring alcohols at the lower end of the spectrum as Alex Moreau says “we like to drink our wines” - so they aim to produce complexity and character in the wines without compromising balance and freshness. Fermentations, with wild yeasts, are long and élévage takes place in barrel over 12 months without batonnage and racking. The wines are then moved to tank and kept there, on fine lees, for a further 4-6 months before bottling. New oak is present but kept to a minimum - 20% the villages and 25% new for the 1ers Crus.
