It was created in 1999 when Château Certan Giraud was purchased by established Bordeaux négociant Établissements Jean-Pierre Moueix. One part was renamed Hosanna, with the other two hectares (five acres) becoming Château Certan Marzelle. The property faces Pétrus (also part of the Moueix stable) and lies between Lafleur and Vieux Château Certan. There are 4.5 hectares (11 acres) of vines at Hosanna, on soils made up of red gravel with layers of clay and some sand (the famed, iron-based \"crasse de fer\" soils of the appellation). The vineyard is planted with 70 percent Merlot and a relatively high 30 percent Cabernet Franc.
