The estate was founded by the Despagne family in 1812 and today remains family-owned. The Château Grand Corbin Despagne grand vin is a Merlot-predominant blend, with smaller quantities of Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. Grapes are harvested by hand from vines aged over 20 years old that produce concentrated flavor compounds. After fermentation, the wine is aged in 40 to 60 percent new oak barrels for between 12-18 months. Production of the grand vin totals approximately 70,000 to 100,000 bottles per year. The first vintage of the château's second wine, Petit Corbin-Despagne, was produced in 1998. This second wine is typically a blend of 70-percent Merlot and 30-percent Cabernet Franc. The grapes are harvested from a selection of vines aged between 10 to 20 years old, producing between 25,000 to 40,000 bottles per year.
