The estate specializes in Sangiovese-based wines, producing a series of Chianti Classico wines: Chianti Classico, Chianti Classico Riserva and Strada Al Sasso. The estate has an extensive history dating back to the early part of the 16th Century when the Del Taja family began gradually gathering together a collection of Chianti vineyard parcels. Today, the 1000 hectare (2500 acre) property is owned by the Jackson Family Wines Group, which also owns Californian producer Kendall-Jackson. Approximately 92ha (220 acres) of the estate is devoted to vineyards. Sangiovese is the most widely planted grape variety here and occupies a total of 34ha (84 acres), with small plots dedicated to Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. In order to get the best out of its vineyards, Tenuta di Arceno has divided them into 63 distinct \"micro-crus\", each of which is planted to its own unique combination of grapes, clones and rootstocks.
