It was established in 1987 when the Moro family pooled resources to purchase a press and cellar, but the family has more than 120 years of winemaking heritage in the region. Historically Bodegas Emilio Moro cultivated vines for the production of bulk wines until changing consumer tastes invigorated the market for fine wines. Bodegas Emilio Moro has four estate vineyards: Resalso, Camino Viejo, Sanchomartín, and its oldest, Valderramiro, which was planted in 1925. The vineyards overlook the Duero river, sitting on land that sometimes reaches as high as 700m (2300ft) above sea level. The bodega produces numerous wines with various amounts of bottle- and cask-aging, which are labeled with proprietary names. The top wine, the Clon de la Familia, has a limited annual production, while its Finca Resalso and eponymous Emilio Moro reach 600,000 bottles each. The Malleolus range – a reference to the name for old vines in the region, known as "majuelos" – includes the single-vineyard Valderramio (planted in 1924) and the one-hectare (2.5 acre) Sanchomartín sites. The standard Malleolus wine is from a blend of old-vine sites in the region. The bodega has a research and development department that works with a number of universities on various projects, especially those promoting the success of Tinto Fino. Emilio Moro was also a founder of the Institute for Vine and Wine in conjunction with the University of León. More recently, the winery has branched out into producing a range of Godello-based white wines from the Bierzo region, to the northwest.

["Country_Spain","Other_Wine","Producer_Emilio Moro","Region_Castilla y Leon","RK270124","Source_RemedyWine0124","Type_Red Wine","Varietal_Tempranillo
"option1":"Default Title","option2":null,"option3":null
["Default Title
["//caskcartel.com/cdn/shop/files/36_123cb67a-6777-43e5-bdfa-4996698bc164.png?v=1706535532
//caskcartel.com/cdn/shop/files/36_123cb67a-6777-43e5-bdfa-4996698bc164.png?v=1706535532
Title

Red Wine: 2020 | Emilio Moro | Malleolus

Dark ruby violet-colored in the glass, this wine has enticing aromas of orange peel, milk chocolate and black raspberry.

Order from the Largest & Detailed Description

      Dark ruby violet-colored in the glass, this wine has enticing aromas of orange peel, milk chocolate and black raspberry. Plush tannins and bright acidity wake up your mouth to flavors of ripe cherry, cranberry, anise frond and dried lavender.

      Reviews:

      • Wine Spectator: A fragrant version, with black licorice and toast accents to the baked cassis and blackberry fruit flavors. Rich and expressive, without being weighty, layering the tang of balsamico acidity and supple tannins with the expressive profile. Reveals a waft of medicinal herbs on the finish.
      • James Suckling: Dusted oak spices with a mixture of tarry black plums and blue fruit. Anise and minty chocolate, too. Full-bodied on the palate with very tight but creamy tannins and a long, spicy finish. Drinkable now if you decant, but much better in two to three years.

        Producer Information

        Emilio Moro is a Spanish winery based in Ribera del Duero that primarily produces red wines from the Tinto Fino grape variety (the local name for Tempranillo).
