It is most famous for its premium wines produced from Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay and Sangiovese. The 20-hectare (50-acre) vineyard passed through many different hands before the Staglin family became the proprietors in 1985 – including a Texan gold and oil tycoon on the run from the law in his home state, as well as the more respectable Beaulieu Vineyard. Located at the base of Mount St. John, the estate vineyard lies on an alluvial fan of volcanic soils. These soils, when combined with the area's unique mesoclimate, provides ideal growing conditions for vines with the first vineyard established as far back as the mid 1860s. The flagship Staglin Family Vineyard range includes Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon, the latter commonly blended with small portions of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot.
