This limited edition was the first in the series of annual releases from the Port Ellen distillery in the Diageo Special Releases. Distilled in 1979 and matured for 22 years before bottling at a natural cask strength of 56.2% abv, this Islay single malt was limited to just 6,000 bottles when it was released in 2001.

Nose: Soft peat rises out of the glass with tangy sea salt and green grape aromas.
Palate: The palate is bold but not over powering; clean menthol and peaty iodine roll around with refreshing clarity.
Finish: It seems infinite, it is like the Islay shoreline is lapping at the back of your mouth as sweet vanilla, smoke and menthol swirl about.
Distillery Information
Port Ellen was founded in 1825, on the south side of Islay, by A.K. Mackay & Co. The Ramsay family operated the distillery from 1833 to 1920, when they sold Port Ellen to Buchana-Dewars, who formed a new company to oversee Port Ellen's affairs.
