Detailed Description

The second release in Laphroaig’s Archive Collection offers a window into the distillery’s past. Aged for 38 years, this single malt charts the journey of Laphroaig’s famously bold character as it softens and deepens with time. Matured first in American ex-bourbon casks, then second-fill oloroso sherry hogsheads, and finally European oak seasoned with oloroso, there are just 400 bottles presented at 41.3% ABV.

Laphroaig 38 Year Old Archive Collection Single Malt Scotch Whisky | 700ML Tasting Notes

Nose: Beautifully spicy with a mixture of dried fruits, raisins and dates, with caramelised orange peel and cherry blossom undertones and a faint whiff of fresh tobacco. Adding water reveals heightened spiced orange notes and a gentle smouldering campfire.

Palate: Smooth and complex, initially with dried apricots and sultanas with a salted caramel creaminess. A spiciness remains – like crystallised ginger, cloves and a touch of aniseed.

Finish: The peat gives a peppery sensation in the mouth along with an oily texture, which is well balanced by the sweetness.

Distillery Information

Laphroaig whisky is made on the Scottish island of Islay. The distillery has been in operation since 1810, making it one of the oldest whisky distilleries in Scotland. Laphroaig whisky is known for its smoky flavour, which comes from the peat used to smoke the barley during the whisky-making process. Laphroaig distillery is open to visitors, and there are several tours available that allow you to see how the whisky is made. You can also try some of the different Laphroaig whiskies at the on-site tasting room. If you're feeling really adventurous, you can even sign up for a peat-cutting tour. This distillery has malts that are utterly distinctive.
