Berry Bros. & Rudd don't only independently bottle up brilliant whiskies. The team also gets its hands on exceptional rums from time to time – and that's exactly what's happened here! This is a single cask bottling of Monymusk Jamaican rum, distilled back in 2004 and set aside to rest until 2021. After that lengthy slumber, it was drawn from its barrel and bottled up at cask strength – a hefty 62.4% ABV.

Nose: Big notes of fruity esters, with ripe banana and zesty orange.

Palate: Slightly smoky at points with a touch of snuffed candle underneath.

Finish: Quite long finish.

Distillery Information

Monymusk rum is a popular Jamaican rum that has been produced since the early 1800s. The rum is made from molasses and is known for its strong, sweet flavour. Monymusk rum is often used in cocktails and is also popular as a sipping rum. Monymusk rum is produced by the Monymusk Plantation, which is located in the parish of Clarendon, Jamaica. The plantation has been in operation since 1655 and is one of the oldest sugar plantations in Jamaica. The Monymusk rum brand was established in 1808, and the rum has been produced at the plantation ever since. Monymusk rum is made using traditional Jamaican pot stills. The rum is aged in oak barrels for a minimum of three years. Monymusk rum is known for its strong flavour, which is due in part to the high level of esters present in the rum. The Monymusk Plantation is open to visitors and offers tours of the rum-making process. The plantation also has a small museum that tells the history of the Monymusk rum brand.
