"Mortlach, Scotland's first legal distillery in Dufftown (1823), boasts a unique "Beast of Dufftown" character from its complex 2.81 distillation, pioneered by George & Alexander Cowie using worm tubs and unusual still arrangements, creating a rich, meaty spirit for blending, later acquired by John Walker & Sons (now Diageo) and undergoing modern premiumization with designs by Philippe Starck."
