Detailed Description
Fermented with wild yeasts and aged in Slavonian casks, this soulful red has earthy aromas of new leather, truffle, dark spice and initially funky but not unpleasant hints of barnyard that blow off after a few minutes in the glass. The structured, savory palate also boasts an earthy charm, featuring fleshy black cherry, black olive, licorice and tobacco set against a backbone of crushed velvety tannins.
Producer Information
Il Paradiso di Manfredi is a tiny Brunello di Montalcino wine estate located in Tuscany, Italy. It is acclaimed for its traditionally-styled, ageworthy wines and natural, low-intervention methods. The estate was purchased by Manfredi Martini and his wife, Fortunata in 1958. He had worked for the famous Biondi Santi winery, which in the early 1950s was the only producer. Manfredi's estate was in fact intially focussed on olive trees until a severe frost destoyed them and they were replaced in the 1960s by vines. The zone was granted DOC status only in 1966 when this was just one of 12 wineries. Manfredi was an original founder of the Brunello Consorzio in 1967. Manfredi Martini died in 1982. His daughter Rossella and son-in-law Florio Guerrini took over and still run the estate today, with their daughters. Florio, formerly a maths teacher, has made the wine since the 1981 vintage.
