Detailed Description

The famed Mars distillery has ventured out of their home country for this new expression, working with an iconic temple in Taiwan, a past colony of Japan. The Qingshan Temple was established in 1956 in Wanhua, Taipei’s oldest and most historic district. The temples iconic door gods are made in traditional Huianxi style, and the stone lions at the front of the temple were carved from granite and bluestone in 1938, during the Japanese era, in classic, meticulous Japanese style. Each year the King of Qingshan Festival (????) is held, and for the first time Mars has worked with the temple on this release commemorating the annual festival. The festival takes place this year on the 27th of November, and is one of Taipei’s largest annual temple fairs. The colourful labels depict two of the eight generals (???) who act as bodyguards for the King of Qingshan and other gods. During the festival the general’s duty is to clear the area of evil spirits, as they walk through the streets surrounding the temple, in order to allow the Qingshan King to pass through, too. Rumor has it releases will follow each year for the final six generals. Bottled at 40% the bottles come in boxes depicting the generals and the temple itself. Only 1022 bottles have been released, exclusively in Taiwan, meaning just over 500 sets will be available.
