          Producer Information

Pago de Carraovejas is a wine estate based in Peñafiel, in the Ribera del Duero region of Castilla y León, in the province of Valladolid in northeast central Spain. The estate produces a small range of wines based on the local mainstay, Tinto Fino (Tempranillo). Starting out in the 1970s with nine hectares () of vines, the current Pago de Carraovejas estate now counts 220 hectares () of vineyard. The vines are predominantly Tinto Fino although significant plantings of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot are reflected in the wines. Three main labels are produced: the main release Pago de Carraovejas (93 percent Tinto Fino with four percent Cabernet Sauvignon and three percent Merlot); the single-plot El Anejón (94 percent Tinto Fino with four percent Merlot and two percent Cabernet Sauvignon); and the Cuesta de las Liebres cuvée, only released in the best vintages and 100-percent Tinto Fino. The winery is designed to be gravity-flow (i.e. with minimal or no use of pumps). The wines are vinified in a range of oak cuves and aged in barrel.
