      Reviews:

      • Wine Advocate: The 2014 Barbaresco Tradizione is a nicely centered wine that offers a solid array of ripe fruit flavors with cherry and red currant in pole position. As I have discovered with other Barbaresco wines from 2014, the fruit is surprisingly opulent and soft considering the below average temperatures that persisted throughout the summer season. Those plump characteristics are followed by moderate touches of spice, tar and smoke.
      • James Suckling: An elegant Barbaresco which shows morello cherries, treacle tart, dark plums and lavender. Medium to full body, fine tannins and a fresh finish.

      Producer Information

Marchesi di Barolo is an Italian wine estate in Piedmont, particularly known for its single-vineyard and riserva wines from the Nebbiolo grape. The historic estate often releases older vintages demonstrating the ageworthiness of the wines. The estate controls around 120 hectares (297 acres) of vineyards and makes a wide portfolio of wines from all of the principal varieties of the region. Unsurprisingly, Barolo forms the heart of the range. The flagship single-vineyard wine is the Barolo Cannubi, from a large holding in the famous vineyard. The Barolo Riserva is made from various parcels vinified separately then blended after aging. Winemaking combines the modern and traditional; depending on the wine, large Slavonian oak casks between 3000 and 18000 liters might be combined for aging purposes with barriques or stainless steel tanks. The business was established in the early 1800s, when the Marquis of Barolo married the French noblewoman Juliette Colbert. She provided the impetus to the development of the estate that bore her husband's name. Five generations of the Abbona family have now owned and managed the company.
