Bottled at 50 % ABV, non-chill filtered and with no added coloring, this lightly peated malt (12–15 ppm) merges the Hebridean soul with the soft influence of sweet wine maturation.

The Isle of Harris Distillery, known locally as The Social Distillery, opened its doors in 2015 in the heart of Tarbert, on the remote and rugged Isle of Harris in Scotland’s Outer Hebrides. More than a whisky producer, it was founded with a clear social purpose — to create sustainable employment and support community life on the island. Architecturally striking yet deeply rooted in tradition, the distillery has quickly become a landmark of modern Scotch whisky making. Its first permanent whisky, The Hearach, is named after the people of Harris (Hearachs), embodying the character of the island itself: elemental, resilient, and authentic. The distillery uses locally drawn soft water and marries traditional copper pot stills with modern practices, producing a lightly peated style of single malt with a distinctive maritime influence. Early experiments with diverse cask types, including wine and sherry, highlight their innovative spirit while staying true to Scotland’s whisky heritage. In addition to whisky, the distillery also gained acclaim for its Isle of Harris Gin, distilled with sugar kelp hand-harvested from the island’s seas - a symbol of their dedication to place, people, and provenance. As both a whisky maker and a community hub, the Isle of Harris Distillery represents more than craftsmanship - it’s a living testament to island resilience, creativity, and connection.
