Kavalan is Taiwan’s first whisky maker and the nation’s only family-owned whisky distillery. This particular whisky was from Kavalan’s Solist range. It was matured in single malt port cask. Presented in a nice box with only 174 bottles ever released, give it a try!
Kavalan Solist Port Cask Cask Strength Single Malt Whisky Tasting Notes
Nose: Light oak spice as it opens, before notes of refreshing tangerine and dried fruit develop.
Palate: Chocolate éclairs, summer berries (think blackcurrant and strawberries atop a cheesecake) and vanilla-forward malt.
Finish: A zesty hint of passion fruit and lemon appears on the finish.
Distillery Information
Situated at the cross boundary of Yi-Lan mountains, overlooking the Pacific Ocean, the King Car distillery has been creating something that many thought would never happen: Taiwanese whisky. Naming their brand after the indigenous people that originally inhabited that area, the Kavalan, was a way to show how genuine King Car Group wanted to be with their new project.
