With notes reminiscent of the Amarone, intense hints of cherry, blueberry, licorice and lingering accents of cinnamon and pepper. Soft and warm, structured velvet tannins and a very balanced acidity. Long finish with entwined dark, ripe fresh and dried red fruits.

• Vinous: The 2018 Valpolicella Ripasso is wildly spicy with a sour citrus twang contrasting rich cherry-berry fruits. It's a juciy, highy-energy effort, with vibrant shades of red offset by tactile minerality and brisk acids. Long and full of character, this leans more toward blue and purple fruits throughout the finale.

• James Suckling: Intriguing, quite heady nose, offering strawberry jam, matcha tea and hints of hazelnuts and something like grated parmesan. Full-bodied with a silky start, then firm tannins appear, coated with a mix of sugar-cane and savory elements that linger in the mouth.

The Bertani family has the longest tradition of producing wines in Verona Italy dating back the 17th century. In 1800s the Bertani brothers started to produce the first Verona dry wines exported to more than 20 nations supplying the Italian and British Royal families. In 1920s They started to produce our early Amarones were exported worldwide under the name of “Recioto Tipo Secco” and “Acinatico”. Produces seven estate grown wines from three valleys in Verona, Veneto, Italy. These are fine boutique wines with a distinctive elegant and classic style. Tenuta Santa Maria di Gaetano Bertani work is terroir focused and consistent with our family’s heritage in expressing the identity of the Amarone docg, Valpolicella and Soave docs.
