      Detailed Description

An elegant, pure and exuberantly spicy nose blends notes of essence of red and dark berries with wisps of earth, lavender and a background hint of oak.

      Reviews:

      • Decanter: This half-hectare of vines on the border with Nuits was planted in 1954, in thin soils over the limestone bedrock. The fruit was completely destemmed and gently pumped over during fermentation, before ageing in cask, half new. This deeply-coloured wine is a bit closed on the nose initially, but opens with time to show a gorgeous black fruit character, a silky texture and firm tannic grip on the palate.
      • Vinous: The 2019 Vosne-RomanĂ©e Aux RĂ©as was completely destemmed. It has a pure, focused bouquet of dark cherries and black currant aromas, plus just a touch of pressed iris flower. The palate is medium-bodied with fleshy, succulent tannins, good depth and quite a precocious finish for Village Cru. Excellent.

      Producer Information

Domaine Thibault Liger-Belair is a highly regarded Pinot Noir producer located in Nuits-Saint-Georges in the CÎte de Nuits subregion of Burgundy, France. The Marey and Liger-Belair families have been involved with the vineyards, sale, and trade of Burgundian wines for well over a century, but it was not until 2001 that Thibault Liger-Belair created Domaine Thibault Liger-Belair to exploit the family's historic and noteworthy vineyards. Domaine Thibault Liger-Belair's portfolio of domaine wines (vineyards owned by the estate) covers ten wines from six different appellations, including Vosne-Romanée (the Richebourg Grand Cru and Aux Réas), Vougeot (the Grand Cru Clos de Vougeot), Nuits-Saint-Georges (Premier Cru Les Saint-Georges and the La Charmotte site) and Gevrey-Chambertin (the La Croix des Champs vineyard). The estate also makes a Bourgogne Aligoté. In all, the domaine owns around seven hectares (17 acres) of vineyard land. It also makes wines from a range of grower vineyards in the appellations of Corton, Aloxe-Corton, and Chambolle-Musigny, and Moulin-à-Vent in Beaujolais. The domaine vineyards are organically certified and biodynamically farmed. Grapes are hand harvested and sorted on arrival in the chai and are generally destemmed with minimal pumpovers/pigeage during fermentation. However, Thibault Liger-Belair's vinification process can differ from year to year, to year. The wines tend to be aged on their lees in barrel for at least one year and are never fined or filtered. The Liger-Belair family has a long and storied history in Burgundy and Thibault is the cousin of the Vicomte Liger-Belair in Vosne-Romanée. In 2001 (a year after the Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair was founded), Thibault established his domaine in Nuits-Saint-Georges and took back family vineyards that had previously been leased or sharecropped to other estates.
