      • Wine Advocate: The 2020 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Abbaye de Morgeot unfurls in the glass with notes of pear, honeycomb, white flowers, freshly baked bread, ripe cantaloupe melon and smoke. Medium to full-bodied, satiny and layered, it's elegantly muscular, with a deep core of fruit, racy acids and a long, chalky finish. The 2020 vintage is another very promising year for Pierre-Yves Colin, who finds the wines a bit more charming and demonstrative than the more serious, structured 2019s—the latter a vintage we revisited in bottle and which appears to possess considerable aging potential. As readers may know, Colin's bigger cuvées are crushed and see four-hour press cycles, whereas smaller cuvées aren't crushed but see even longer press cycles lasting five or more hours. Vinification and maturation in barrel, with a heavy emphasis on larger-format barrels, follows.
      • Decanter: The fruit is lightly crushed before being slowly pressed and briefly settled prior to fermentation in mostly neutral casks. The result is less lemony than many of the Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey bottlings, and this shows lovely aromas of ripe apricot, hay and beeswax, within a creamy, dense texture that is classic Chassagne. This subsection of Morgeot is on the gentle slopes below Les Grands Clos and Les Petits Clos, where the domaine has just over a half-hectare of vines.

      Maison Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey is a Burgundy producer based in Chassagne-Montrachet, in the Côte de Beaune subregion. It is known for its fine Chardonnay wines, and has most of its vineyard holdings in Saint-Aubin. The estate was established in 2005 by husband-and-wife team Pierre-Yves Colin and Catherine Morey, both children of esteemed Burgundy winemakers. Colin had been winemaker at his family's winery since 1995 and in 2001 started a négociant business with his wife. In 2005, he left the family estate to establish his own label with his six-hectare (15-acre) share – the rest of the Colin vineyards remained with his three siblings (Caroline, Joseph and Damien, who run Domaine Marc Colin). Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey has holdings in several premier cru sites in Saint-Aubin and Chassagne-Montrachet including Chatèniere, Champlots, Remilly, Chenevottes and Caillerets. On top of this, the domaine buys grapes to make wines from several grand cru vineyards, including Bâtard-Montrachet and Corton-Charlemagne. The estate predominantly makes Chardonnay, but also produces a small amount of Pinot Noir from Saint-Aubin and Santenay. In the cellar, Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey does not employ battonage but favors lengthy lees contact and barrel aging. The wines are bottled without filtration and often without fining.
