Distillery Information

Douglas Laing & Co. is an independent bottler of Scotch whisky based in Glasgow. The company was established in 1948 by Fred Douglas Laing, and is now run by his son, Fred Hamilton Laing, and his granddaughter, Cara Laing. In 2013 Fred's brother Stuart amicably left the company to form Hunter Laing, taking several brands with him. The company is known for its extensive array of single cask whiskies. Most of these are single malt, but there are also several single grain bottlings in the portfolio. Since the 2013 split Laing's whiskies are released in three principal ranges. Provenance features younger whiskies typically aged from six to 14 years. Old Particular is the core range of expressions over 14 years of age, while the XOP (Extra Old Particular) range that replaced Director's Cut in 2013 is the top range, featuring the very best stocks of aged and rare whiskies in individually numbered bottles. Douglas Laing also makes a range of blended malts under the Remarkable Regional Malts label. Big Peat, not surprisingly, is sourced from Islay, Scallywag from Speyside, Timorous Beastie from the Highlands, The Epicurean from the Lowlands and Rock Oyster from the Islands. Each standard release is backed up by extra aged or cask strength expressions, special wood finishes or seasonal bottlings.
