Detailed Description
Detailed Description
Typical nose of violets, spice and super-ripe cherries. More backward and restrained than usual. A tight earthy, leathery palate which is less feminine than usual.
Reviews:
- Wine Advocate: The medium to dark ruby-colored 1999 Romanee-St.-Vivant has super-ripe black cherry and violet aromas. Medium-bodied and dense, it is austere, foursquare, and firm. This juicy red and blackberry-flavored wine has a tannic oak-imbued finish.
- James Suckling: Super quality in this blockbuster of a Pinot Noir, with lovely blackberries, wild berries and blueberries. But this full-bodied red is tough and angular, and a bit woody. Needs years in the cellar to show it all, but loads of ripe fruit, terroir and mineral character anchor it in pedigreed Burgundian soil.
Producer Information
Domaine de la RomanĂ©e-Conti, or DRC as it is commonly known, is easily Burgundy's best-known and most collectible wine producer. Based in the Burgundy village of Vosne-RomanĂ©e, the domaine sells wines from eight different grand cru vineyards that span the length of the CĂŽte d'Or. The most famous comes from the eponymous RomanĂ©e-Conti vineyard, and on average is the most expensive wine in the world. The domaine predominately produces Pinot Noir-based wines from 28 hectares (69 acres) of grand cru vineyard. Alongside RomanĂ©e-Conti are La TĂąche, RomanĂ©e-Saint-Vivant and Richebourg in Vosne-RomanĂ©e; plus Ăchezeaux and Grands Ăchezeaux bottlings. Fruit from Corton-Bressandes, Corton Clos du Roi and Corton Renardes is combined in a single Corton Grand Cru red. There are three white (Chardonnay) wines made. Only one of these, the Montrachet is made widely avilable. A BĂątard-Montrachet and a Bourgogne Hautes CĂŽtes de Nuits are not publically distributed.
