Detailed Description

This limited production #ProjectBlackFriday is brought to you by the same gentleman that brought you Elijah Craig’s “Sweet Baby Jesus.” If you weren’t privy at the time, this single barrel of 12-year-old whiskey was a limited production run that sold out online and in-store within a single day, truly living up to it’s name with imbibers proclaiming “Sweet Baby Jesus!” after tasting it. This November, another highly anticipated production is coming! This one is from the Kentucky Peerless Distilling Co. An original distillery closed down during Prohibition in 1917, this distillery was resurrected in 2013 by current owner Corky Taylor, a 4th-generation descendant of the original owners of Peerless Distilling. This “juice” was privately selected during an informal lunch gathering in which Corky decided to pull out several individual tasting drams from the Peerless storage warehouse. Upon tasting, several in the group (including the master barrel picker) began chatting about this specific sample dram so much that Corky ended up reserving that single barrel – which gave birth to the name Project Black Friday. More than 50 years of combined experience selected this dram so it promises to be a winner in the world of whiskey. Another especially unique fact about this barrel is that it was filled on September 11, 2015. This was the 14th year anniversary date of September 11, 2001, also known as 9/11. Serial number R150910103 was then stored and aged for over 36 months before bottling. This single barrel yields 222 bottles at 750ml. Its Proof is 108.4, or 54.20% ABV. Be the first to receive, taste and review one of these historic limited production bottles.

Project Black Friday | Kentucky Peerless 3-Year Single Barrel Tasting Notes

Nose: The nose begins with a deep honey and a dark fruit syrup. Florals and tobacco come in later giving the aroma and amazing balance and complexity.

Palate: The taste starts with a pop of cinnamon before showcasing white fruit, caramel, and sweet/spicy oak. The second sip is a bit more earthy, highlighting some grasses and rye spices.

Finish: The finish celebrates both sweet and spicy oak, but features an encore of chocolate and floral.

Distillery Information

Originally operating as Worsham Distilling Company, the Kentucky Peerless Distilling Company began in Henderson, Kentucky in the early 1880s. In 1889, under the leadership of the entrepreneur and our ancestor, Henry Kraver, Peerless Whiskey production began to flourish.

Kraver wasted no time making upgrades to machinery and investing in additional warehouses that eventually became U.S. Federally Bonded following the Bottled-in-Bond Act of 1897. Thus, production of Peerless whiskey raised substantially from 8 to 200 barrels a day.

Through the early 1920s, the Peerless federally-bonded warehouses were used for whiskey storage under the armed protection of the U.S. Government. During Prohibition, Peerless product was one of the few available by prescription for medicinal use.

The original Kentucky Peerless Distilling was Distilled Spirits Plant (DSP) number 50. Today, we are privileged to have that same number. The newly assigned DSP numbers are in the 20,000s. We are very happy to say DSP-KY-50 is our own.

Now, five generations have been connected to Peerless. The family namesake was revived by Kraver’s great-grandson, Corky Taylor and his son, Carson Taylor.
