      Producer Information

Azienda Agricola Elvio Cogno is an Italian wine producer, located just south of the Barolo comune in the Langhe area of Piedmont. Unsurprisingly, it is well-known for producing Barolo DOCG wine from the Nebbiolo grape variety. The range of Nebbiolo wines is completed by the Barbaresco Bordini and a Langhe Nebbiolo. Elvio Cogno also makes several other wines, including two Barbera d'Alba wines and a Dolcetto d'Alba. One of the most notable wines in the collection is the Barbera d'Alba Pre-Phollxera produced from one of the last vineyards of Langhe that is over 100 years old. The sandy-calcareous soils created an inhospitable environment and the vines were able to survive the phylloxera pandemic. The estate owns around 15 hectares (37 acres) of vineyards in Novello, including 11.5ha (28.4 acres) divided into multiple parcels within four different areas of the Ravera cru. These correspond to the four Barolo wines produced – the Riserva Vigna Elena, Ravera, Bricco Pernice and Cascina Nuova cuvées. Elvio Cogno was formed in 1990 when the Cogno family purchased the current winery and house. The family had been growing grapes and producing wine in La Morra for many generations. In 2012, the company won a UNESCO award for the restoration work of their farmhouse in the sympathetic installation of new facilities. Today, annual production totals around 7000 cases.
