This single cask comes to us from family-run indie bottler Hunter Laing & Co. Specially selected and bottled for the Heritage series in the Platinum Old & Rare Selection, this expression was distilled at Benrinnes in Speyside in 1979. Matured for four full decades, it has been bottled at a natural cask strength of 42.1% abv free from all chill filtration and artificial colouring. Just 208 bottles have been produced of this limited edition.

Benrinnes 40 Year Old 1979 Old & Rare Platinum Single Malt Scotch Whisky Tasting Notes

Nose: This bright gold whisky has notes of dried pineapples, furniture wax and green herbs on the nose.

Palate: Oily and waxy in the mouth, with more fruity notes - orange, papaya and guava.

Finish: The finish is long, fruity and satisfyingly drying.

Distillery Information

Benrinnes is a malt whisky distillery in Aberlour producing an eponymous whisky. It was founded in 1826, and is still active. The distillery employed a unique partial triple distillation process until 2007. The first time whisky was produced at the site of Benrinnes distillery was in 1826, when a distillery was founded by Peter McKenzie. This distillery was destroyed by a flood in 1829, and was rebuilt in 1835 in the outbuildings of a farmhouse by John Innes, and officially founded under the name Lyne of Ruthrie.
