• Wine Advocate: Deep ruby in color, the 2013 Soul Of A Lion is still a baby, loaded with cassis and accents of graphite, iodine and iron—this has barely budged in the last eight years! The palate is full-bodied with a fine, grainy frame, mineral-laced flavors and a very long finish. It's an expertly crafted Cabernet Sauvignon that inspires glee with its incredible youth, but it will require plenty more time in bottle to show everything it's got.

A little old-school and rich, but still shows freshness for a big wine. 82% cabernet sauvignon, 10% cabernet franc and 8% petit verdot.

Producer Information

Founders George and Daniel Daou began searching for the vineyards that would comprise the DAOU estate in the mid 2000s - their objective was to find the perfect terroir for producing world-class Cabernet Sauvignon. They eventually settled on an estate in the Adelaida District AVA in San Luis Obispo County, specifically a plot once singled out by oenologist André Tchelistcheff as being of great potential. It's rare to find high quality Cabernet Sauvginon in Paso Robles, rare even to find anyone vinifying the grape here, but the high altitude of the site combined with a forensic approach in the vineyard and winery have allowed the team at DAOU to produce some truly fantastic wines. The flagship Cabernet Sauvignons are dense, intense reds that are set to age for many decades. Mayote is a Cabernet Sauvignon / Syrah blend while the estate Chardonnay is a surprisingly elegant entry in the portfolio.
