These bottles and packaging have a modern shape and from the year 1992 onwards, the bottlings to the existing bottle code for the protection against counterfeiting were added with a safety hologram at the capsule and each one have an individual number.

Detailed Description

This rare Macallan 18 Years Old Sherry Oak Vintage 1987 Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky is part of the series, which helped Macallan to their almost legendary reputation: the pure Sherry-cask single malt whisky bottlings. It was not until the middle of the 1960s that Macallan concentrated on single-malts matured in sherry casks and, with the exceptional barrel policy, gained great recognition among whisky connoisseurs worldwide. At that time they experimented with different sherry casks and decided to use European Oloroso casks, which previously stored the world-famous Spanish liqueur wine. Despite the crisis in the 1980s among the sherry producers, the Speyside distillery Macallan succeeded in securing the supply of selected sherry casks and filling the coveted Sherry-Cask whiskys further. The early to mid 80s bottlings of the 18yo Macallans tend to show a much gamier, meatier profile with notes of Spices, cloves, oranges, dried fruit with some smoke and lots of classic sherry intensity. Super soft and typically luxurious in style. A great old version of a classic 18 years Macallan Highland single malt and hard to find at this days!

Nose: Dried fruits, a hint of ginger, vanilla and cinnamon with a hint of citrus.

Palate: Spices, cloves, oranges. Dried fruit with some smoke.

Finish: Full and lingering, with dried fruit, sweet toffee, ginger and a hint of wood smoke.

The Macallan distillery is a single malt Scotch whisky distillery in Craigellachie, Moray. The Macallan Distillers Ltd, is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Edrington Group which purchased the brand from Highland Distillers in 1999.
