It has numerous Premier Cru vineyard holdings in both the Côte de Nuits and Côte de Beaune, the largest of which is situated in Gevrey-Chambertin. The vast majority of Louis Boillot wines are made from Pinot Noir, although the domaine makes a small amount of wine from Chardonnay and Gamay. Louis' father, Lucien Boillot originally hailed from Volnay, where his father ran Domaine Henri Boillot, but settled in Gevrey-Chambertin in the 1950s and founded Domaine Lucien Boillot et Fils. The estate was divided between his sons, Louis and Pierre in 2002. Louis released the first Domaine Louis Boillot vintage in 2003 from his cellars in Chambolle-Musigny, which he shares with partner Ghislaine Barthod – winemaker and owner of Domaine Ghislaine Barthod. The two domaines are managed completely independently of one another and the wines are also vinified separately.
