Distillery Information
Willett Distillery was founded in 1936 by Thompson Willett in Bardstown, Kentucky, on land that had been in the Willett family since the 1800s. Thompson's grandfather, John David Willett, was a master distiller at the Moore, Willett & Frenke Distillery in Bardstown, establishing the family's deep roots in Kentucky's distilling tradition. Thompson and his father Lambert Willett used John David's bourbon recipes as the foundation for the Old Bardstown whiskey brand. The distillery produced its first batch of whiskey on March 17, 1937. Over the years, the Willett family expanded their operations, launching brands like Johnny Drum Bourbon in the 1960s. Despite challenges, including the distillery's closure in the 1980s, the Willett family has maintained a commitment to quality and tradition in bourbon production.
