      Reviews:

      • Wine Advocate: Unlike the Corton ’13, the 2013 Corton-Bressandes Grand Cru was unaffected by hail. It has a ripe and fresh prune-tinged bouquet that is a little too showy for my liking. The palate is medium-bodied with quite dense, structured tannins. There is a spicy edge to the fruit, although contrary to expectations, I find slightly more harmony and finesse to the straight Corton this year. Actually, a feuillette showed more expressively and with more grace, so perhaps that is the shape of things to come?
      • Vinous: Bright dark red. Deep, pure aromas and flavors of black cherry, minerals, bitter chocolate and spices; less open on the nose than the Corton but more serious. At once dense and lively on the palate; a lovely savory, elegant grand cru with a fine-grained texture and a sexy balance of flesh, sweetness, and freshness Still holding dark fruits in reserve but this classy wine spreads out horizontally on the back end, finishing firm but not at all hard. Distinctly airier and less massive than the Corton, and balanced to age gracefully.

      Producer Information

Domaine Tollot-Beaut (pronounced "Toh-Loh Boh") is a leading Burgundy wine estate in Chorey-lès-Beaune, principally producing Pinot Noir with smaller amounts of Chardonnay. It has bottled its own wines since 1921, and was one of a small group of wines to be the first domaine-bottled Burgundies imported into the USA in 1930, along with Armand Rousseau of Gevrey-Chambertin and Henri Gouges of Nuits-Saint-Georges. The estate consists of 24 hectares (59 acres) in four communes: Chorey-lès-Beaune, Savigny-lès-Beaune, Beaune and Aloxe Corton, and range from Bourgogne level through to the Corton rouge and Corton-Charlemagne grand crus. The estate is known for its high proportion of old vines from Pinot Fin, the original clone of Pinot Noir, and employs a nursery to develop clones of its vines for future planting. This reportedly explains the high quality of Tollot-Beaut's red wines from the heavier clay soils of Chorey-lès-Beaune. In the vineyard, Tollet-Beaut does not use fertilisers, and green harvests are usually performed to limit yields. Grapes are harvested manually on a plot-by-plot basis. Red fruit is mostly destemmed and lightly handled to avoid crushing before going into fermentation tanks. Pump-overs take place for the first couple of days, with twice-daily punchdowns for the remaining eight to ten. Domaine Tollot-Beaut also has a reputation for its balanced use of oak, producing extra richness without overt oak flavors. Wines up to village level spend 16 to 18 months in oak barrels (with no toast), with around 20 percent new oak. This percentage rises to 60 for the Grand Cru wines. The domaine is currently headed-up by Nathalie Tollot-Beaut, whose great-great grandfather established the family domaine by buying parcels in Chorey and Beaune in the late 19th Century.
