Red Wine: 1996 | Domaine de la Romanee Conti | La Tache
Brilliant ruby-red. Ineffable liqueur-like perfume combines blackberry, black raspberry, cassis, truffle and tar. Fat, sweet and dense but quite closed in the mouth; not yet showing La Tache's typical licorice component.Great potential, reserved, its length and "thickness" on the palate announce interesting developments.

Detailed Description
Detailed Description
The darkest red colour of all. On the nose, the wine is sharp, as if it were "double-locked" in its tannic coating (gangue). The "enigmatic" character of this wine finds its full expression in this wine, even if we detect some hints of liquorice typical of La Tâche. Great potential, reserved, its length and "thickness" on the palate announce interesting developments.
Reviews:
-
Wine Advocate: This blockbuster wine possesses a profound nose. It exhibits awesomely ripe red and black fruits, raw meat, and Asian spices, all of which are encased in sweet toasty oak. This full-bodied, wide, thick, focused, harmonious, and intense wine releases amazingly powerful layers of candied black cherries and blackberries. It is structured, totally precise, pure, and possesses an exceptionally long finish loaded with abundant sweet tannins. It will require patience.
- James Suckling: Deep color. Very pure fruit confit aromas of cassis and blackberry. A rich La Tâche, with a combination of ripeness and high acidity. It's up front in its appeal today, with a great nose and tight finish.--La Tâche non-blind vertical.
Producer Information
Considered the pinnacle of Burgundy, Domaine de la Romanee-Conti produces some of the world’s most revered wines from its tiny vineyards in Vosne-Romanee. Two of the Domaine's seven Grand Cru vineyards - La Romanée-Conti and La Tache - are monopoles (appellations entirely owned by the Domaine) and unarguably the greatest vineyards in Burgundy. Richebourg, Romanee-St.-Vivant, Grands-Echezeaux, Echezeaux, and Montrachet (in Chassagne) are also Grand Cru vineyards, yielding sublime wines that are among the most highly-sought, seductive and rarest in the world.
