Detailed Description
Detailed Description
Following distillation, Russell's Reserve Single Barrel Bourbon is aged in American oak casks that have been charred with a #4 char. Typically, the degree of charring within a cask is measured on a scale of one to four, with a #1 char referring to casks that have been slightly toasted, and a #4 char referring to casks that have been charred so heavily that the interior resembles an alligator hide (the latter are nicknamed alligator-charred casks). The heavy char contributes notes of vanilla and crème brûlée to Russell's Reserve Single Barrel Bourbon, and compliments its notes of oak and baking spices.
Russell's Reserve F-4 #0592 Tasting Notes
Nose: Big oak and rich caramel upfront, with graham cracker sweetness complementing the initial scents nicely. Taking a deeper inhale reveals a light smokiness that’s accented by cigar box and a hint of leather.
Palate: A vigorous mix of rye spice and charred oak combine with sweet caramel chews. Leather, tobacco, and toffee further mingle in. The nose predicts the palate accurately, as it is rich and full-bodied.
Finish: Tapering rye spice meets a dark fruit, tobacco, and leather slurry. Aged oak, caramel, graham cracker, and toffee flavors from the palate carry over but fade in the background.
Distillery Information
Our home was founded by Jimmy Russell, known by many as “the master distiller’s master distiller,” a legend of bourbon. The devotion and artistry for fine bourbon runs in the Russell family, and Master Distiller Eddie Russell is no different. Eddie, Jimmy’s son, joined the family legacy, and for 30 years he learned everything Jimmy had to teach: every tradition, every technique, every touch of craft. When the time came to spread his wings, Eddie created Russell’s Reserve® as a tribute to his father’s legacy and their shared passion for bourbon, but filled with original ideas, showing Jimmy that he had his own way of crafting bourbon.
