      Reviews:

      • Wine Advocate: Given the quality of this year’s Spatlesen that immediately preceded it, I felt as though the 2005 Piesporter Goldtropfchen Riesling Spatlese had something to prove about this great site. Above all, it seemed to demonstrate that the Grafenberg and Goldtropfchen are very distinct in character. In this Goldtropfchen we have a Spatlese much more opulent and abundant in fruit character, but without the delicacy or refinement of the Grafenberg. Floral and herb distillates, fresh apple, pink grapefruit, lemon curd, and pineapple are among the bold diversity of aromas that soar from the glass. On the palate, honeyed richness and juicy refreshment are both manifested in a kaleidoscope of fruits. Subtly tart fruit skin and distinctively wet stone manifestations of slate add further complexity to the finish as well as assisting in the restraint of what is analytically very high residual sugar.
      • Wine Spectator: Exotic, showing apricot, nectarine and mandarin notes, this is intense and elegant at once. It's shot through with a lovely acidity, keeping it fresh and lively on the long, apricot-tinged finish.

        Producer Information

Weingut Haart lies only a few meters from the Mosel river, on the romantic, peaceful Ausonius riverbank. Immediately behind the family’s estate, the Piesporter Goldtröpfchen vineyard begins its uphill climb, and only a few steps from the winery are the remains of the first and oldest Roman grape pressing house that has been unearthed along the Mosel. It and another ancient pressing facility in the vicinity bear witness to fact that steepsite viticulture has played a significant role in Piesport and environs for nearly 2,000 years. The Haart family’s viticultural tradition has been documented since 1337. The Haarts are probably Piesport’s oldest wine-growing family, as well as one of the oldest private wine estates in the entire Mosel region. Today’s Weingut Reinhold Haart stems from these traditional, family beginnings. At present, the VDP estate (member of the Association of German Prädikat Wine Estates, or VDP) numbers among the best in the Mosel region. Karl- Theo Haart has managed the estate since 1971 and has stamped its structure and wine style ever since. In 2015 his sons Johannes and Marcus Haart took over the family business. With its 9.0 ha (22.2 acres) of vineyards – exclusively in steep sites – the estate is committed to the best of what the Mosel has to offer: Riesling. Particularly careful vineyard management and consistent efforts to reduce yields through stringent pruning and bunch pruning are essential to steep-site production of high-quality, long-lived Riesling wines that are full of character. The portfolio specializes in a broad range of distinctive wines with a natural, fruity sweetness and great aging potential. Thanks to cool fermentation with natural yeasts, the wines are extraordinarily fresh even many years after bottling.
