Mars Komagatake Tsunuki Aging 2018 Single Malt Japanese Whisky | 700ML

Distilled at Mars Shinshu, but matured in the Mars Tsunuki aging cellar, this charms with fresh fruity notes of raspberry, apple, and pear, with banana loaf, baking spices, lemon zest, and seasoned oak. The opening flavors of vanilla fudge and warm fruits are submersed by a vigorous peppery incursion, though there’s pear, chocolate, malt, and vanilla pod flavors once that settles.

Nose: Delicate fruity, apple tea, cherries, brown sugar, caramel.

Palate: Full-bodied, fruity, peat smoke, vanilla.

Finish: Perfect, long lasting finish.

Distillery Information

Mars Whisky is a leading Japanese whisky brand, owned and produced by distiller Hombo Shuzo. There are currently two single malt whisky distilleries; Shinsu in Nagano and Tsunuki in Nagashima. Hombo Shuzo also owns the Chateau Mars winery. The business took out a licence for whisky distilling in 1949, initially blending whiskies distilled elsewhere. Their advisor, Kiichiro Iwai, was a leading light in the domestic and international rise of Japanese whisky. His name appears on various Mars whisky labels. In 1960 Hombo Shuzo started to make its own whisky at a new plant in the Koshu Valley in Yamanashi prefecture. However shochu still dominated spirits sales in the country, and production halted in 1969. Today the facility is used as the winery for Chateau Mars.
