Size: 750ML

Proof: 36 (18%ABV)

Origin: Italy

Distillery: Giulio Cocchi Spumanti

Detailed Description

Made by the masters of vermouth, this is a very rare example of a speciality of the Barolo region. It consists of three year old barrel-aged Barolo with extracts of quinine, cassia, and a whole host of other botanicals, plus neutral alcohol and sugar. The result is an intense experience to be sipped very slowly after dinner rather than mixed into a Manhattan. Though you could if you were feeling flush.

Cocchi Barolo Chinato Tipo Esportazione Tasting Notes

Nose: On the nose there are rich, woody notes of cinchona bark, dry tobacco leaves and spices, followed by flavours more typical of the Barolo wine.

Palate: On the palate there's dark berries, violets and velvety tannins together with cardamon, liquorice and orange peel.

Finish: Long and smooth.

Distillery Information

Cocchi has produced wine-based aperitifs and traditional Piemontese sparkling wines since 1891. Since 1978, the company has been owned and operated by the Bava Family, themselves renowned producers of sparkling wine in Monferrato and Langhe. Giulio Cocchi was a young and creative pastry chef from Florence, where he worked in a popular bar located in Piazza del Duomo. In the late nineteenth century he moved to Asti, a small but lively town in northwest Italy, not far from Torino, and established himself as a distiller and winemaker. His Barolo Chinato, Aperitivo Americano and vermouths became well known during the Belle Epoque and the Italian Futurist period.
