"Caol Ila (pronounced "Cull Eela"), Gaelic for "Sound of Islay," began in 1846, founded by Hector Henderson, known for its beautiful location, consistent production, and resilience through ownership changes and wartime closures, becoming Islay's largest distillery with a 1972 rebuild and Diageo's modern ownership, producing a smoky, peaty whisky with floral notes used extensively in blends like Johnnie Walker."
