The bourbon barreled for OCEAN Voyage 19, uses wheat in its mash bill as its small grain instead of the typical rye. Reminiscent of Voyage 15, the less flavorful wheat allowed the sweetness of the corn to build through the maturation process. Once barreled and put to sea, the bourbon was immediately and continually influenced by the salt air and constant movement of the ship. Jefferson's Ocean Special Wheated Voyage 19 Straight Bourbon Whiskey Tasting Notes

Nose: The aroma is bright with notes of toffee and Cracker-Jacks.

Palate: The flavor profile is rich and lightly sweet with abundant flavors of cinnamon cornbread, salted caramels, and vanilla.

Finish: The finish is very smooth with an almost red velvet cake note.

Distillery Information

Founded in 1997, Jefferson’s is the brainchild of Trey Zoeller and his father Chet, a famed bourbon historian. They were continuing a family tradition that goes back to Trey’s 8th generation grandmother who was arrested in 1799 for the “production and sales of spirituous liquors.” To personify the brand, they chose Thomas Jefferson—known for his curiosity and experimental spirit. This is a mindset to which Trey has dedicated himself, pushing the boundaries of the definition of bourbon. Upholding tradition, yet always discovering new possibilities.
