Sobieski vodka is named for Poland's King Jan Sobieski III. Their marketing prides itself on the tradition of Polish vodka production--including rye as a base, a lack of glitz, and the acknowledgment that multiple distillations are not necessarily making the product better (this is true, by the way). This vodka is made with Polish Dankowski Rye grain with water from the Oligocene springs. Vodka Sobieski had been distilled since 1864. In the autumn of 2007, Sobieski was ranked as #1 vodka by the Beverage Tasting Institute, based on a blind tasting of 108 different vodkas.

Sobieski Orange Vodka Tasting Notes

Nose: Spicy, inviting aromas and flavors of lemon peels, fruit punch, and sun tea.

Palate: A glycerous, shy, fruity sweet medium-to-full body and a tingling, breezy finish with accents of navel orange, orange Jell-O, and orange drink finish.

Finish: Fresh and refreshing finish.

Distillery Information

Sobieski Distillery (Destylarnia Sobieski S. A.) in Starogard Gdanski (former: Gdansk Vodka Distillery, former Distillery "Polmos" in Starogard Gdanski) dates back to the year 1846 when a merchant from Gdansk, H.A. Winkelhausen, founded the Manufacturing Plant of Vodkas, Liqueurs and Brandies. A quarter of a century later, in 1871, the first spirit rectification plant in the Pomeranian region was created.
