The estate primarily produces red wines from Burgundian flagship grape variety Pinot Noir. A range of quality levels (from grand cru to \"village\" are represented. The domaine has its origins in vineyard plots in Gevrey acquired back in 1850 by viticulturist Jean-Baptiste Laroze. The domaine remained in the Laroze family for subsequent generations and expanded with the marriage of Suzanne Laroze (Jean-Baptiste's granddaughter) to Alexandre Drouhin in 1919. On their marriage, Drouhin added his family holdings in Chambolle-Musigny to those of Laroze's and the estate changed name to Domaine Drouhin-Laroze.
