      Detailed Description

The 2020 Roux-Duval Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru "Abbaye de Morgeot" is a rich, expressive white Burgundy made from 100% Chardonnay from the prestigious Côte de Beaune.

      Producer Information

Domaine Roux-Duval is an elite, highly allocated boutique project based in the Côte de Beaune, Burgundy, celebrated as a prestigious collaboration between two historic winegrowing families specializing in the great Chardonnays of Burgundy and Champagne. Born out of a deep friendship between Christian Roux (of the legendary Domaine Roux Père et Fils) and Champagne producer Jean-Charles Duval, their shared dream of creating an exceptional micro-estate together was ultimately realized 25 to 35 years later by their respective sons, Sébastien Roux and Édouard Duval. Unlike sprawling Burgundy estates with vast multi-appellation portfolios, Roux-Duval operates with an ultra-focused, singular cru philosophy centered entirely around a tiny, highly coveted parcel of century-old vines within the legendary Abbaye de Morgeot Premier Cru in the Chassagne-Montrachet AOC. Cultivated on sloped, limestone-rich clay soils, the minuscule vineyard is managed using meticulous, traditional hands-on farming techniques to optimize phenolic maturity and terroir clarity. In the cellar, the winemaking follows a purist, classical methodology: the fruit is manually harvested, gently vertical-pressed, and undergoes a slow, traditional fermentation. The wine is then aged for 16 to 20 months in French oak barrels (using a measured 20% to 30% new oak to avoid masking the fruit) followed by several months of resting in bottle before distribution. Production is extraordinarily scarce, frequently limited to only 600 to 700 bottles per year, yielding a textbook, profound Chassagne-Montrachet Premier Cru that has captured top critic ratings for its beautiful straw-yellow profile, complex flinty-smoky reduction, zesty acidity, and deep, honeyed, hazelnut-driven minerality.
