It commenced trading in its current form in 2004, but counts its own history back to the 18th Century, when it was known as Shenk's (taking the name Michter's in the 1950s) and was based in Schaefferstown, Pennsylvania. The distillery makes a range of whiskeys, including a Kentucky straight Bourbon and rye, an American Whiskey (aged in used barrels, unlike Bourbon), and a sour mash whiskey based on the version made by the original Michter's. The range also includes a range of more premium whiskeys, including some up to 25 years old. There are also a number of limited editions that are some of the most sought-after and highest priced whiskeys made in the United States.
