      Detailed Description

The 2024 Quinta de Couselo Turonia Albariño is a vibrant, racy, and mineral-driven white wine from the O Rosal subzone of Rías Baixas, Spain.

      Producer Information

Quinta de Couselo, a historic benchmark estate nestled in the O Rosal subzone of Rías Baixas, Spain, is one of the oldest working wine properties in Galicia, seamlessly combining centuries of heritage with modern, Atlantic-driven viticulture. The estate's viticultural origins date back to 1163, when Cistercian monks from the nearby Monastery of Santa María de Oia recognized the exceptional potential of the O Rosal valley and established the "A Cheira" farm. Following secularization, the estate was bought at public auction in 1864 by Don Casimiro Dorado y Méndez, remaining under dedicated single-family ownership for nearly 150 years until it was acquired in 2013 by the prestigious Grandes Pagos Gallegos wine group. Today, under the technical direction of head winemaker José Manuel Martínez Juste—former president of the Galician Winemakers' Association—the 9-hectare estate leverages a unique coastal microclimate shaped by the Atlantic Ocean and the Miño River. Cultivating 15-to-40-year-old vines on mineral-rich granite and slate soils, the winery specializes in highly expressive, lees-aged white blends led by Albariño, alongside rare indigenous varietals like Loureiro and Caíño Blanco, yielding structurally complex wines celebrated for their intense floral aromatics, vibrant stone fruit layers, and signature maritime salinity.
