Herdade das Albernoas is a highly regarded, value-driven Portuguese wine brand produced by Sociedade Agrícola Encosta do Guadiana (part of the historic Herdade Paço do Conde estate) in Beja, located at the heart of southern Portugal's sun-drenched Alentejo region. Managed by the Castelo Branco brothers, the expansive estate carries a rich history that dates back to 1378, with portions of its property sitting amid the ancient remains of a Roman castle alongside the Guadiana River. Spanning over 210 hectares of gently sloping, south-facing vineyards rooted in a unique combination of schistose loam and sandy soils, the winery relies on precise drip irrigation to balance grape maturation during the region's characteristically long, hot, and dry summers. To capture optimal freshness and acidity, the fruit is harvested strictly at night before undergoing temperature-controlled stainless steel vat fermentations.
