This is a rather extreme example of the sort of challenges that sometimes face consumers – and Wine-Searcher – when trying to correctly identify and locate a particular wine. Both produce red wine made the Merlot grape variety. One property is owned by the negociant house de Coninck, and has around 10 hectares (25 acres) of vineyards on the two opposing slopes of the Canon ampitheater, on either side of Château Vray Canon Boyer, in the commune of Saint-Michel de Fronsac. Some vintages may feature small amounts of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. A second wine has been produced in the past under the name Canon-Lange. The wines are typically aged in barrels for 20 months, mostly using French oak but some for some vintages a few barrels were made from wood from other European forests and, even more unusually, Amercian oak.
