Bulleit '87 Frontier Whiskey is a new permanent expression named after 1987, the year Bulleit was founded. It combines Kentucky-distilled bourbon with Indiana-distilled rye, with both whiskeys aged for at least four years before being separately finished with toasted American and French oak staves. The bourbon provides caramelized sweetness and body, while the rye contributes spice and structure. Bottled at 90 proof, it offers a balanced profile of brown sugar, caramel, toasted oak and baking spice.

Nose: Brown sugar, caramel and vanilla with toasted oak, baking spice and light rye spice.

Palate: Smooth and layered, with warm caramel, sweet grain, toasted wood and cinnamon followed by gentle rye spice and structured oak.

Finish: Medium and warming, with lingering caramel sweetness, toasted oak and a clean sweet-and-spicy rye character.

Distillery Information

Bulleit was founded in 1987 by Tom Bulleit, reviving a family whiskey tradition that traces back to Augustus Bulleit in the 19th century. The brand became known for its distinctive high-rye bourbon and frontier-inspired identity before expanding into rye and other whiskey expressions. Bulleit '87 marks the brand's first new permanent core expression in 15 years. Its bourbon and rye components are distilled and matured separately before receiving toasted American and French oak stave finishing and being blended in Shelbyville, Kentucky. The expression represents Bulleit's modern interpretation of its pioneering heritage.
