The winery had the highest production among the varied Coppola wine estates and produced the group's value brands. It was created decades later to separate the different brands the Neibaum-Coppola estate had cultivated. Wanting to distinguish the Rubicon label (which at the time accounted for only around 5000 of the estate's 268,000 annual case production), Neibaum-Coppola changed its name to Rubicon (now Inglenook Winery after another name change in 2011) and moved the production of its other wines, including the Diamond Collection, to Sonoma, establishing the Francis Ford Coppola Winery.
