It is one of the oldest estates in the region with a history dating to the 17th Century and produces a number of red wine labels. It was acquired by Australian wine giant, Treasury Wine Estates (owners of the likes of Penfolds and Wolf Blass), in 2019. The château and its estate lies just a few hundred meters north of Fifth Growth estate, Château Cantemerle. Both lie to the southwest of Macau town, albeit not far from the southern limits of the Margaux appellation (Château Giscours sits just over two kilometers, or 1.2 miles, to the northwest of Cambon La Pelouse). The 35-hectare (86-acre) Cambon La Pelouse vineyard is planted to 50 percent Merlot, 45 percent Cabernet Sauvignon, and five percent Petit Verdot with vines averaging around 30 years old. The soils are composed of sandy gravel with rocks and stones. Grapes are hand and machine harvested, sorted twice, and undergo a so-called cold macerateration in stainless steel tanks for six to eight days prior to fermentation. The wines remain on skins for a total of around two to three weeks, including fermentation. The grand vin is barrel-matured for around 20 months in French oak before bottling, around half of which is new. Some 15,000 cases of Château Cambon la Pelouse are produced annually. The château produces a second wine, Château Trois Moulins, composed of roughly 50 percent Merlot, around 30 percent Cabernet Sauvignon and 20 percent Cabernet Franc. The estate also owns a small, half-hectare (1.25 acre) plot in central Margaux and uses fruit from this parcel to produce a third label, L’Aura de Cambon, made from equal portions of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. Prior to its acquisition by Treasury Wine Estates, the estate had been owned by Jean Pierre Marie since 1996.

["Country_France","Other_Wine","Producer_Château Cambon la Pelouse","Region_Bordeaux","RK290324","Source_VendorEmail0324","Type_Red Wine","Varietal_Bordeaux Blend Red
"option1":"Default Title","option2":null,"option3":null
["Default Title
["//caskcartel.com/cdn/shop/files/19_9a50a87a-f3ca-4b5e-9082-301ac8cd80e7.png?v=1711883628
//caskcartel.com/cdn/shop/files/19_9a50a87a-f3ca-4b5e-9082-301ac8cd80e7.png?v=1711883628
Title

Red Wine: 2015 | Château Cambon la Pelouse | Haut-Medoc

It offers a darker edge in its blackcurrant, underbrush, tobacco and earthy aromatics, is medium-bodied, beautifully concentrated, and has building tannin.

Order from the Largest & Most Trusted Premium Spirits Marketplace!

Featured in

ROLLING STONE

MEN'S JOURNAL

US WEEKLY

NOTICE: Many other small liquor store sites may end up cancelling your order due to the high demand, unavailability or inaccurate inventory counts. We have partnerships consisting of a large network of licensed retailers from within the United States, Europe and across the world ensuring orders are fulfilled.

Producer: Château Cambon la Pelouse

Ratings: WE | 92  JS | 91

Vintage: 2015

Size: 750ml

ABV: 14%

Varietal: Bordeaux Blend Red

Country/Region: France, Bordeaux

Detailed Description

It offers a darker edge in its blackcurrant, underbrush, tobacco and earthy aromatics, is medium-bodied, beautifully concentrated, and has building tannin.

Reviews:

Wine Enthusiast: Close to some of the top Margaux vineyards, this estate regularly produces some fine wines. Reviews:

      • Wine Enthusiast: Close to some of the top Margaux vineyards, this estate regularly produces some fine wines. This bottling is beautifully structured, firm with tannins and also generous with black fruits. A high percentage of Merlot gives a particularly ripe and juicy wine that will age over the medium-term.
      • James Suckling: Big black fruits and a ton of ripe tannins make this a dramatic wine that would be hard not to like. The balance is really good and that makes it delicious right now. If it were a bit more complex it would rate even more highly.
