The estate is owned by the Vallana family who have been making wine in the region since 1787. Antonio Vallana is particularly known for its Nebbiolo-based wines made under the Gattinara and wider Piedmont appellations, but it also produces other native grape varieties like Barbera, Vespolina and Uva Rara. The vineyards are planted in iron-rich soils that, along with the area's diurnal temperature variation, provide ideal grape-growing conditions. Grapes are hand-picked and vinified in cement tanks, and the wines age for approximately two years in oak barrels. Antonio Vallana makes four Nebbiolo-predominant wines: Campi Raudii, Spanna, Boca and Gattinara.
